This technology has revolutionized the approach to replacement of missing teeth. Patients that wear removable dentures can also greatly benefit from the treatment. The procedure involves implanting a sterile post in the bone tissue where teeth are presently missing. Once the bone tissue has grown around the implant the replacement appliance is fabricated and installed on the post. This appliance can be one of many different types depending on the need. Crowns used to replace single teeth may be permanently cemented directly onto the post. Special articulating
hardware may be fitted on a conventional removable denture whereby the denture snaps on to the post eliminating the need for denture adhesive. Multiple missing teeth may be replaced by permanently cementing a multi-unit bridge to one or more post. This technology has allowed patients new and improved options for utilizing fixed and removable appliances.
Implant Procedure:
Step One: The implant procedure is performed in the office under local anesthesia. The implant is placed into the jawbone where the tooth is missing.
Step Two: Once the implant is placed in the jawbone, it is then covered with gum tissue and allowed to heal for three to six months.
Step Three: After the healing process, the implant is uncovered and a post is tapped into the implant. The post will provide the foundation for your new tooth or teeth.
Step Four: A crown or a removable denture will be placed on the abutment post which becomes your final restoration.
